Holocaust Memorial Concert

To mark UNESCO’s International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, distinguished Austrian baritone Wolfgang Holzmair and pianist Olivier Godin give a recital centred on works composed at the Theresienstadt concentration camp.

In connection with the lecture on January 23, 2024.

Wolfgang Holzmair, baritone*

Wolfgang Holzmair was born in Vöcklabruck, Austria, and studied at the Vienna Academy of Music and Dramatic Art with Hilde Rössel-Majdan (voice) and Erik Werba (lied).

The singer performs in recital throughout the world, including London, Lisbon, Moscow, New York, Seoul, Washington, at the Risör Festival (Norway), Bath, Belfast and Edinburgh festivals (UK), Menuhin Festival (Switzerland), Bregenz and Carinthian Summer festivals (Austria) in collaboration with leading accompanists and pianists of our time.

Olivier Godin, piano

Recently appointed artistic director of the Arte Musica Foundation and of the Salle Bourgie in Montréal, the pianist, conductor and organist Olivier Godin leads a brilliant career as a concert artist, chamber musician and educator in Canada and abroad. He has given recitals alongside several lyrical artists including Frédéric Antoun, Pascale Beaudin, Marc Boucher, Julie Boulianne, Gordon Bintner, Russell Braun, Donna Brown, Thomas Dolié, Étienne Dupuis, Antonio Figueroa, Julie Fuchs, Karina Gauvin, Hélene Guilmette, Wolfgang Holzmair, Aline Kutan, Dominique Labelle, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, François Le Roux, Michèle Losier and Sylvia Schwartz. He has performed in several Canadian festivals as well as abroad. Among his many recordings are the complete songs of Poulenc, Fauré, Duparc, Dutilleux, an album of melodies and piano works by Jolivet, Rachmaninoff’s complete works for two pianos, Brahms Liebeslieder-Walzer as well as a solo album of the world premiere of Émile Pessard’s works for piano.

Godin has given master classes for singers and pianists in Canada, the United States, Mexico, France, and Sweden. Professor at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal since the age of 25, Olivier Godin still teaches as a vocal coach and was the director of the opera studies for almost 15 years and teacher for 20 years. He also taught at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University as a Master Coach and professor of French lyric diction. He participates in numerous summer academies as a vocal coach and vocal accompaniment teacher for pianists. In 2017, he cofounded the Académie Vocale Internationale de Lachine with his colleague Richard Turp.
