A genuine sensation on the global jazz scene, saxophonist Kamasi Washington has distinguished himself among the ranks of musicians who are brilliantly pushing jazz beyond its habitual boundaries. Kamasi has performed and recorded with many of his musical heroes from various genres, including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Snoop Dogg, Gerald Wilson, McCoy Tyner, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Burrell, George Duke, Lauryn Hill, Jeffrey Osborne, Mos Def, Quincy Jones, Stanley Clark, Harvey Mason and Chaka Khan. Kamasi worked on Kendrick Lamar’s acclaimed 2015 album “To Pimp A Butterfly.” Kamasi’s recent groundbreaking solo album “The Epic” is a 172-minute, triple-disc masterpiece, featuring a ten-piece band along with a full string orchestra and full choir. This daring collection is inspired by John Coltrane, Sun Ra and Pharaoh Sanders, as well as by funk and R&B.
