Les Grands Ballets presents

Rodin / Claudel

A commissioned piece that premiered in September 2011, this narrative ballet recounts the torrid romance of French sculptors Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, from the flowering of their shared creative passion to Claudel’s downward spiral into poverty and madness. To represent the burst of creativity that stemmed from their union, and the psychological toll it exerted, Peter Quanz added a 12-member ensemble of six men and six women: “sculptures” that embody the shapes and emotions emanating from the minds of the artists.
