Just for The Culture (formerly known as The Ethnic Show) is a complete celebration of diversity, inclusion and funny people. You’ll laugh as a variety of comedians take the stage to talk from their perspective about what culture means to them. Hosted by Alonzo Boden and featuring Dave Merheje, Jessica Kirson, Paul Rabliauskas, Sheng Wang, Yannis Pappas and Zainab Johnson!

Alonzo Bodden - Just for the CultureAlonzo Bodden

A regular panel member on NPR’s Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me, Alonzo Bodden has been making audiences around the country laugh for more than 20 years.

In August 2019, Alonzo starred in his fourth stand-up special, Heavy Lightweight, which premiered exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. In the special he touched upon a range of topics from slavery, cell phones, and the #MeToo movement, to millennials, Kanye West and Taco Bell. As he says, “he likes to mix it up and hopes that audiences will join him for a laugh and a think, or two.”

Alonzo’s first big comedy break came when he was on the “New Faces of Comedy” showcase at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal. However, it was as the season three winner of NBCʼs Last Comic Standing, where Alonzo was first introduced to America. Since then, he has starred in two comedy specials for Showtime: Historically Incorrect and Who’s Paying Attention. His television appearances include ABC’s Dr. Ken and Fresh Off the BoatDr. PhilThe Tonight Show with Jay LenoLate Night with Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and Californication.
In 2018, Alonzo released his fifth comedy CD titled Man Overboard, and currently hosts the podcast Who’s Paying Attention? where he gives his unique take on what’s going on in the world.


Jessica Kirson - Just for the CultureJessica Kirson

Jessica Kirson is a powerhouse on stage. She’s a hilariously relatable performer of sheer silliness, vulnerability, and ridiculous characters. Her countless comedic character videos have racked up over 50 million views on social media. Her audience is multigenerational, creating an excuse for large groups of friends and families to spend a night out together. In an era where only 10% of all touring comedians are female, Jessica stands out as one of the strongest comedians regardless of gender.

Jessica produced FX’s Hysterical, a feature-length documentary that premiered at SXSW 2021. The film explores the changing landscape of women in stand-up comedy and features Margaret Cho, Nikki Glazer, Chelsea Handler, Fortune Feimster, and other notable comedians. Her one-hour special Talking to Myself was executive produced by Bill Burr and debuted on Comedy Central. She is a regular on This Week at the Comedy Cellar and has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The View, HBO’s, Crashing, and Kevin Can Wait. She also recently acted in and served as a consultant, producer, and writer on the Robert De Niro film The Comedian.

Jessica’s highly anticipated prank call album, The Call Girls, also featuring Rachel Feinstein, was released on September 24th. Recorded virtually during the depths of quarantine, the album features characters such as old Jewish grandmothers, sexy co-eds, a conservative mother and her gay son, and more.

She was awarded “Best Female Comic” by the MAC association in New York City and received the prestigious Nightlife Award for “Best Stand-up Comedian.” In her spare time, Jessica is a regular contributor to The Howard Stern Show, where she produces and stars in prank calls for the program.


Dave MerhejeDave Merheje

Dave co-stars alongside Ramy Youssef and Mo Amer in the award winning comedy series Ramy on Hulu. As a stand up, Dave has made multiple appearances at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, JFL42 in Toronto, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Halifax Comedy Festival, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in Australia, and tours clubs and theatres regularly. In 2018, Dave released his comedy special “Good Friend Bad Grammar” which is available on Amazon Prime, and won the 2019 Juno Award for Comedy Album of the year. His most recent comedy special, Beautifully Manic, can be seen on Netflix as part of Comedians of the World, right now.


Paul RabliauskasPaul Rabliauskas

Paul Rabliauskas is an accomplished stand-up comedian, writer and actor. He’s performed in theatres and festivals across Canada including Oddblock Comedy Festival, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Just For Laughs,Just For Laughs Northwest and the Artic Comedy Festival. In July 2021 Paul taped his first stand up special at the Just For Laughs Festival that will be released on CRAVE TV. His debut television series, Acting good is set to air on CTV Comedy Channel in 2022.

Sheng Wang is a comedian, actor and writer originally from Houston, TX. Most recently, he has been touring with Ali Wong and was a featured stand-up on HBO’s “2 Dope Queens” special. Sheng also wrote for the ABC show “Fresh Off the Boat.” He resides in Los Angeles and in his time off he enjoys visiting botanical gardens and discovering new ways to snack.


Yannis PappasYannis Pappas

Yannis Pappas is a stand-up comedian, actor & writer. He’s also a cute kid. Yannis’ 2019 hour stand-up special Blowing the Light produced and directed by Andrew Schulz is available on Youtube. He was the host of NextVR’s virtual reality live stand-up series, Live In Gotham (44 episodes 2018-19). He was also the host of AOL’s award winning Original Series, 2 Point Lead (a sports comedy show). Yannis’ Half Hour Comedy Central Special aired in 2014 and is available on Amazon, iTunes, ComedyCentral.com and whenever Comedy Central re-runs it. His 2016 album Let Me Be Yannis (recorded in Madison, WI) is available on iTunes and Spotify. Yannis has been part of the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, New York Comedy Festival and tours the world as a stand-up comedian and is known for his immensely popular characters Mr. Panos and Maurica. His podcast Long Days is available on YouTube and wherever you listen to podcasts.


Zainab JohnsonZainab Johnson

Zainab Johnson is a stand-up comedian, actor and writer from Harlem, NY who was recently hailed by Variety as being a Top 10 Comic To Watch. Zainab’s comedy is based on her unique point-of-view, which was shaped growing up as one of thirteen siblings in a Muslim family. Zainab can currently be seen playing the role of Aleesha on the Greg Daniels Amazon series UPLOAD and hosting Netflix’s 100 Humans, a social experiment where 100 individuals take part in interactive experiments exploring sex, happiness, torture and all the other aspects of being human. Zainab is a regular at the Comedy Cellar in NY as well as the Comedy Store and Improv in LA. She’s made appearances on Late Night with Seth Meyers, HBO’s All Def Comedy, MTV’s Acting Out, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing. She had a breakout performance at The Melbourne Comedy Festival and regularly returns to the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal.
