A VIRTUAL TEA PARTY – CELEBRATING “BLACK EXCELLENCE” ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

In the last 10 years, Playmas Montreal has honored over 60 Women of Excellence with the “Woman of Merit” Award. These women were from various backgrounds such as Community Service, Medicine, Media, Fashion, Church etc. This year they will celebrate 5 more Black Women of Excellence on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

For the first time in eleven years, the 2021 edition of this event will be staged virtually. Via Zoom.

Gemma Raeburn-Baynes, President of Playmas Montreal, which hosts the annual gathering, confirmed that “A Taste of Tea” organizers are crafting an incredible agenda providing time for participants to enjoy deluxe teas and elevated conversation, meet the five young Women of Black Excellence being honoured with the Woman of Merit Award:

LaToya Belfon (teacher/author)

Petra Stewart (lawyer and community volunteer)

Akilah Newton (Akilah Newton Project, writer and published author)

Kelsey Walker (community activist)

Herla Osias (entrepreneur and community worker)

“Although not meeting face-to-face is a major change for Playmas Montreal’s Tea Party, I am confident that participating in what has become one of Montreal’s most highly anticipated events will provide countless benefits for attendees”, says Gemma Raeburn-Baynes.

Participants will enjoy the featured performing artist, pianist, songwriter, arranger and producer Eddie Bullen and his sons who have followed in their father’s footsteps, coming to you with some smooth jazz. The keynote address will be delivered by Sophia Bishop, Founder of Elevated Living, a Personal Effectiveness Lifestyle company. Her company provides training, tools and products to help individuals grow, achieve and be their best selves both personally and professionally. This engaging activity, hosted by journalists Eramelinda Boquer of Global and Kwabena Oduro of CBC, promises to be lots of fun.

Playmas Montreal Cultural Association is a Quebec Chartered non-profit organizations founded in 2000 with the mission of promoting Diasporic Caribbean cultures through storytelling, literature, performing arts, music, food and entertainment to the greater Montreal area.
