Sextets in the City

Three Americans and one Canadian are associated in the Californian Calidore String Quartet. They were highly praised last August when taking part to the McGill International String Quartet Academy. Founded two years ago, the young ensemble has already won numerous major prizes and played with Joshua Bell, Menahem Pressler, and Quatuor Ebène. Back in Montreal, they will play Il Tramonto, lyrical poem by Resphigi for mezzo-soprano and string quartet, Maiblumen blühten überall by Alexander von Zemlinsky, for voice and sextet (with Marcus Thompson and Denis Brott). The program will include two other works written for sextets: an excerpt from Capriccio (Richard Strauss), and Brahms’ Sextet Op. 36.
