La Rêveuse Ensemble Concert of the Birds

Inspired by the human fascination with birdsong, this program brings into dialogue works from the 17th to 20th centuries, merging science, nature, and culture.

Founded by Benjamin Perrot and Florence Bolton, La Rêveuse is an ensemble of solo musicians that works on the heritage of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a period rich in artistic experiments and inventions of all kinds.

La Rêveuse is frequently invited to appear in prestigious venues in France (Auditorium de Radio France, La Folle Journée de Nantes, Les Concerts Parisiens, Fontevraud Abbey, Théâtre de l’Athénée, the Chambord and Radio-France Montpellier festivals, the Scènes Nationales of Orléans, Blois, and Quimper, the TNP de Villeurbanne, etc.) and abroad, notably in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Russia, Japan, the United States and Canada.

The ensemble’s recordings have all been acclaimed by French and international critics and have received numerous awards. The ensemble has developed over the past few years a series of concert-lectures, aimed at museums and media libraries, which bring out parallels between music and painting of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Artists
Sébastien Marq, recorders and flageolets

Sébastien Marq is honorary professor of recorder and chamber music at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Paris, and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands). He teaches at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris and Lyon, and is invited to give master classes in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Japan.

Florence Bolton, basse de viole and pardessus de viole

Florence Bolton is the co-founder and an artistic director of the early music ensemble La Rêveuse. She has also performed and recorded with other French groups in the historical performance field. Bolton began to perform with early music groups such as Doulce Mémoire and Le Poème Harmonique.

Benjamin Perrot, theorbo

The co-founder of the historical performance ensemble La Rêveuse, lutenist and theorbist Benjamin Perrot has also appeared with Ensemble Vocal Sagittarius, Le Poème Harmonique, and other early music groups. With La Rêveuse, he has accumulated a large recording catalog over two decades.

Jean-Miguel Aristizabal, harpsichord

Jean-Miguel Aristizabal performs frequently with ensembles La Rêveuse, La Chapelle Rhénane, Doulce Memoire, Trondheim Barokk, and Le Concert Spirituel. He also performs as a soloist in many festivals across Europe.
