LiveEvents November 4, 2021 2065 Bourgie Hall presents Laura Anglade and Sam Kirmayer The radiant voice of Laura Anglade and her close collaborator, guitarist Sam Kirmayer beckon you to an evening of French, jazz-tinged songs from their spell-binding international repertoire. Laura Anglade, vocals Jazz singer Laura Anglade is making a name for herself on the Canadian jazz scene and beyond. Originally from a small village in the South of France and raised in Connecticut, some of her inspirations include Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn, Mel Tormé, Blossom Dearie, Michel Legrand and Barbara. Laura was coached privately by tenor Matthew Surapine and pianist David Lahm, son of well renowned Jazz lyricist Dorothy Fields. She has made several appearances on the New York, Toronto, Québec City and Montreal scenes and has performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal for the past three years. Her debut album “I’ve Got Just About Everything”, which came out in June 2019 on Justin Time Records, has been met with praise by critics and fans alike. A new second duo record will be released in May 2022 featuring guitarist Sam Kirmayer and special guest Benjamin Rosenblum on accordion. Laura has appeared on Global News, Jazz Today, Whole Note Magazine, and has been recognized by Radio Canada’s Ici Musique as one of the top 5 female jazz musicians to watch out for. Sam Kirmayer, guitar Guitarist and composer Sam Kirmayer, plays with “fearlessness and momentum”– Katie Malloch (CBC Jazz Beat & Tonic). One of CBC Music’s picks for the “35 best Canadian jazz musicians under 35”, his playing has been described as “sharp and clean melodic lines peppered with exquisite chording and comping… never overstated and always expressed with good taste”– C. Michael Bailey (All About Jazz). He has released two recordings as a leader, Opening Statement (Chromatic Audio 2017), and High and Low (Cellar Live, 2018). The latter features acclaimed New York based organist Ben Paterson and was a finalist for the Prix Opus for Jazz Album of the Year. Kirmayer has performed across Canada with his own groups and remains an in demand sideman in Montreal, working with many of the city’s finest musicians including Kevin Dean, André White, Laura Anglade and more. When not performing, Sam is active as an educator, teaching guitar privately and Jazz History at Concordia University. He holds degrees in Jazz Performance from McGill University and the University of Montreal and has been the recipient of many awards and scholarships from Vanier College, McGill University and the University of Montreal. Kirmayer is also president and co-founder of the Société Jazz de Saint-Henri, a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping jazz alive in Montreal’s historic neighbourhoods of Saint-Henri and Little Burgundy.
