One of the several lovely homes that open their doors and gardens for the July 8 House & Garden TourTheatre Lac Brome: 30th Anniversaire! Incroyable! The Montrealer June 28, 2015 6161 Celebrating 30 seasons of launching new careers and presenting international stars In 1986 a modestly staged summer theatre program at the Glen Mountain Ski Lodge, just down the road from the village of Knowlton, was the rebirth of professional English language theatre in Lac Brome; long after the close of the Brae Manor Playhouse. The following year the Theatre presented a season in Knowlton’s Lakeview Hotel, and now after three decades of producing a festival of bilingual theatre and music, Theatre Lac Brome has achieved a remarkable milestone. For thirty seasons the Theatre helped launch numerous young careers while also providing an intimate setting for internationally known performers and the public. The Theatre has entertained tens of thousands of theatre-goers with mystery, mirth, and music. This year the summer program is an anniversary to celebrate the achievements of the past, and plan for the future. The Theatre looks retrospectively at three plays that will run in a repertory schedule. Founding Artistic Director Emma Stevens reprises her performance of Shirley Valentine by Willie Russell, first produced in 1992. Laura Teasdale will bring back memories of the famous songs in Always…Patsy Cline by Ted Swindley, and Don Quixote de Lac Brome a zany adaptation by Eric Overmyer, will reunite three quarters of the cast from last seasons’ hit production of The 39 Steps, Davide Chiazzese, Mary Harvey, and Mike Hughes. Also in the 2015 season, Natalie Choquette returns with pianist Dominic Boulianne in Diva by Night for one performance, but adds an all new production, Her Point of View– Le point de vue de Madame, along with one of her enchanting children’s theatre presentations, Diva Malbouffa. After a season opening event on June 20 with Vintage Wine and Songs from New York, other special one-night-only performances include an evening of classic American swing music with Les Chiclettes, Gino Quilico avec TrioSphere: ‘L’Amour est la’, and Survival is Success with Bowser & Blue. This year the popular Knowlton House & Garden Tour is on Wednesday July 8. And a new initiative for 2015: Sunday Cinema Dimanche series, a bilingual film program presented in the theatre on the big screen every Sunday evening at 7pm. The 30th Anniversary season will bring back some of the past, while creating memories for the future.
