Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer for Collaborative Emerging Artist

For the first time since its inception in 2015, the Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer for Collaborative Emerging Artist is awarded to two remarkable collaborative artists: Meagan Milatz, piano, co-artistic and executive director of HausMusique; Kristin Hoff, mezzo-soprano, artistic and general director of Musique 3 Femmes and Mini-Opéras Santé. Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer 2025-2028 laureates are each awarded $125,000 for a total of $250,000.

Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer is the biggest prize of its kind in Canada and one of the largest in the world for a collaborative emerging artist in classical music.

Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer honours Jean-Pierre Goyer and his contributions to music, arts and culture in Montreal, Québec, and Canada. Mr. Goyer was Chairman of the Conseil des arts de Montréal and Chairman of the Orchestre Métropolitain where he hired Yannick Nézet-Séguin as emerging conductor at the age of 25 years.

Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer is the initiative of Mécénat Musica and Ensemble Caprice whose donors provide the prize with $5,000 from each $25,000 donation. Previous Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer Collaborative Emerging Artist recipients include Francis Choinière, choral conductor 2023-24; Nicolas Ellis, conductor 2021-22; Lara Deutsch, flute 2019-20; Marc Djokic, violon 2017-18; and Philip Chiu, piano 2015-16.

Kristin Hoff, mezzo-soprano, is artistic and general director and co-founder of Musique 3 Femmes contemporary opera company which commissions, develops and produces operas by female and non-binary creators. To date Kristin and Musique 3 Femmes have commissioned 11 new operas by emerging female composers and librettists; presented 65 concerts and opera workshops in three counties, eight provinces and 14 cities, including Montreal, Berlin, New York, Toronto, Vancouver; engaged over 1000 professional opera hires and trained over 200 student artists.

Kristin is also executive director of Mini-Opéras Santé, where duos of singers perform «door-to-door» on the sidewalks, backstreets and parks in underserved neighborhoods. 17,100 free Mini-Concerts & Santé Mini-Opéras Santé and Diversity have educated and supported 133,000 children, adolescents, elderly, adults, and families on 2,400 streets in 620 regions, cities and districts in all 10 Canadian provinces.

Kristin Hoff made her Carnegie Hall debut with the MET Chamber Ensemble in Elliot Carter’s Syringa as part of the composer’s centennial celebration, conducted by James Levine. Other engagements include the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Symphony Orchestra, Mark Morris Dance Company, Chants Libres, Ensemble Caprice, Aramusique, Caramoor Festival, New York Festival of Song.

Pianist Meagan Milatz awarded the Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer

Meagan Milatz, pianist, is co-founder, artistic and executive director of HausMusique chamber music concerts, resident in the beautiful, recently restored Art Deco heritage site Le 9e Grande Salle on the 9th floor of Montréal’s Eaton Center. Meagan performs regularly with top international musicians, including Andrew Wan, concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, mandolinist Avi Avital, and Stefan Dohr, Principal Horn of the Berlin Philharmonic, among many others. Meagan has a recording contract with ATMA Classique for nine HausMusique albums.

Meagan, recipient of the Prix Opus “Discovery of the Year” in 2024, has appeared as soloist with Canadian orchestras including the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Regina Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre symphonique de Sherbrooke and McGill Symphony Orchestra. Meagan was named one of CBC’s “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30”. Meagan embarked on a 50-concert, Canada-wide tour for the 2019/20 concerts eason with violinist Amy Hillis asthe duo “meagan&amy”, winners of the first-ever Pan-Canadian Partnership Recital Tour offered by Jeunesses Musicales Canada, Debut Atlantic and Prairie Debut. Meagan Milatz is “a remarkable pianist [with] a seemingly limitless palette of expression.” – Le Devoir.

Mécénat Musica program has created more than $100,000,000 of in perpetuity capital for 50 Québec cultural organizations with large donations from more than 600 Mécénat Musica individuals and families with funds administered by three partner community foundations: Foundation of Greater Montreal, the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal and Fondation Québec Philanthrope.
