Six food and health trends in 2024
New plant-based products, wellness tips, anti-waste solutions and unique discoveries: the Expo Manger Santé et Vivre Vert is the event not to be missed for all the latest food and wellness trends.

Some of the trends to experience at the Expo:

1.  Rediscovering tofu: One of the most popular plant-based proteins is getting a refresh. From Cajun tofu to a creamy pasta casserole with tofu, kale and butternut squash, come and learn how to prepare it in different ways to discover the countless possibilities that this plant-based staple offers. Don’t miss: cooking demos by Eve-Lyne Auger, aka La Fraîche, “Comment préparer le tofu autrement” (how to prepare tofu differently), Geneviève Plante (Vert Couleur Persil) and Vanessa Daigle, “Cuisiner le tofu” (cooking tofu) and Katia Bricka (La recette parfaite), “Tofu Parfait” (perfect tofu).

2.  Get cooking:  With inflation on the rise, families are turning to new strategies to cut meal costs without compromising on menu and flavour. Discover a host of tasty and inexpensive legume-based ideas on site and attend the conferences “Bien manger à petit prix” (eating well on a budget) by Les Végés Gourmandes and “Défi Zéro Gaspi” (zero-waste challenge) by Florence-Léa Siry. Buying raw food is also one of the best ways to save money and eat healthily. La Meunerie Milanaise, Canada’s leading processor of organic cereal grains, will be on hand to showcase its 100% Canadian flours, in collaboration with actor Emmanuel Bilodeau, a bread lover and baker in his spare time.

3. Responsible eating: thinking beyond the tip of your fork. Apart from the health benefits, eating plant-based food and buying locally are powerful ways to help combat climate change at a time when weather disasters are on the rise. Québec Bio is launching Les Sentiers du bio initiative, a marked-out pathway at the Expo along which visitors can discover some 60 local organic businesses at a glance.

4.  Couleur Café: In 2024, coffee is on everyone’s lips. Aspiring baristas and connoisseurs alike enjoy exploring the broad spectrum of aromas offered by this comforting beverage. Several Québec roasters will be on hand, including Café William, Canada’s leading importer of organic fair-trade coffee. In collaboration with Prana, Café William will be presenting unique recipe ideas in a cooking demo.

5.  Crazy for oats: On top of oat milk and overnight oats, there’s now oat milk ice cream and even oat rice. Clearly, this trendy protein cereal is not done surprising us.

6.  New plant-based products: Say goodbye to dietary restrictions. Thanks to plant-based alternatives, everyone can sit down at the same table, regardless of their allergies, food intolerances or convictions. Québec-based WOOP4, whose visual identity leaves no one indifferent, will be showcasing its new 100% vegan, allergen-free fish range, featuring five flavours: smoked salmon, salmon, tuna, mahi-mahi, tropical piranha (oh yes!).
