Verdi’s Requiem – November 13, 2022 LiveEvents November 6, 2022 729 Orchestre Philharmonique and Choeur des Mélomanes present Verdi’s Requiem Few works in the repertoire offer the excitement of opera and the thrill of spectacular symphonic writing combined with moments of solo virtuosity. Verdi’s Requiem evokes both intense pathos and a sense of apocalyptic drama. For the occasion, soprano Aline Kutan, mezzo-soprano Rose Naggar-Tremblay, tenor Adam Luther and bass-baritone Vartan Gabrielian will unite their voices with 100 choristers, accompanied by 70 musicians on stage, conducted by Francis Choiniere. Artists Francis Choinière, conductor Choinière is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the OPCM (Orchestre Philharmonique et Choeur des Mélomanes), successfully programming large choral and symphonic masterworks for the organization. Choinière is also the Principal Conductor and Co-Artistic Director of l’Orchestre FILMharmonique and Ensemble Classico Moderne. In 2022, Choinière led the FILMharmonique through Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, and Holst’s The Planets Suite, paired with epic themes from cinematic classics including Star Wars. Aline Kutan, soprano Canadian Armenian soprano Aline Kutan has established herself as a versatile and refined artist in both opera and concert. She is consistently acclaimed for her crystalline voice, amazing vocal virtuosity and powerful scenic presence. Her musical training began with tenor David Meek shortly after immigrating from Istanbul to Vancouver at age 10. Rose Naggar-Tremblay, mezzo-soprano Rose Naggar-Tremblay, praised for her dark and velvety voice bordering on contralto, graduated from l’Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal. She recently took part in the Opera de Montreal production of Svadba (Sokolovic) that won the Opus Prize for musical event of the year (2018). She also sang the lead role of Gertrude Stein in the Atelier Lyrique’s production of Twenty-Sven (Gordon and Vavrek) and created the role of Gabrielle in La nuit est ma femme (Côté and Ivy) over the 2019-2020 season. Adam Luther, tenor From Newfoundland, Adam Luther is one of Canada’s most exciting and sought after leading tenors. Mr. Luther received his Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University as well as a Diploma in Opera from both Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Toronto. Vartan Gabrielian, bass-baritone Canadian-Armenian bass-baritone Vartan Gabrielian is a recent graduate of the Canadian Opera Company’s ensemble program and the Santa Fe Apprentice program. While still a student, he made his professional debut with the Opéra de Montréal performing the role of Sparafucile (Rigoletto). Highlights in his upcoming 2022/23 season include his role and house debut as Nourabad (Les pêcheurs de perles) at Vancouver Opera. At the Canadian Opera Company, Gabrielian returns to perform Jailer (Tosca) and Dottore (Macbeth) in addition to covering Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Banquo (Macbeth), and First Nazarene (Salome).
