Festival TransAmériques presents

Elenit – Euripides Laskaridis

A world out of time, suspended between dreams and the end of ideals. Propelled by a wind turbine, a parade of strange characters and a prehistoric beast gravitate around a smoke-spewing creature. After Titans astounded the FTA’s audience in 2018, the fabulous Greek performer Euripides Laskaridis enchants once again with his eccentric imagination in this poetic and grotesque fable about the grandeur and flaws of humanity.

Strewn with scraps of sheet metal, the stage becomes a place for bizarre apparitions where Laskaridis’ personal mythology is unleashed. An extraordinary creator of characters, he dresses up to transform his body into a theatre where gods, monsters, humans and machines come together. A work swept by an irrational wind, Elenit thrusts the spectator into a burlesque tale where chaos rules supreme. A combat in the present, before we disappear.

Euripides Laskaridis is a director and performer. Two dominant themes run through his artistic identity: ridicule and transformation.

He studied acting in Athens at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre, and directing in New York at Brooklyn College on an Onassis Foundation Scholarship. He has been performing since 1995, working with such directors as Dimitris Papaioannou and Robert Wilson. He began directing his own work in 2000 – both stage works and, later, award-winning short films.
