L’Amour à l’opéra, ou Les mots / maux d’amour

In order to chase away the winter gloom and celebrate Valentine’s Day, the Québec lyric institution will present a gala entitled « L’Amour à l’opéra, ou Les mots / maux d’amour ».

On this occasion, 8 young lyric artists from Quebec with a vibrant career ahead of them will be united on the Grand Théâtre de Québec stage. Accompanied by the Orchestre symphonique de Québec under the direction of renowned Quebec conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni, they will sing some of the most beautiful opera arias on the topic of love. A universal and ubiquitous concept pervading numerous musical works, love in opera takes many forms: redemptive, ideal, passionate, betrayed, forbidden, thwarted, unrequited… This powerful and timeless theme has proved to be, for countless composers, an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

The Opéra de Québec thus wishes to take a fresh look at this multifaceted theme, which is often discussed but each time encountered anew with fascination and wonderment. This event will provide a wonderful opportunity to applaud the remarkable talent of these young artists, whose vocal abilities, dramatic sense and mastery of a vast repertoire are sure to delight music lovers.

On the program: arias from German, Italian, Russian and French operas written by Mozart, Rossini, Puccini, Donizetti, Tchaikovsky, Offenbach, Bizet and Gounod.

This event will be held on Sunday, February 14, at 3pm, in the Louis-Fréchette Hall of the Grand Théâtre de Québec. It will be accessible free of charge, and livestreamed on the Opéra de Québec’s website and YouTube channel.

Duration: 1 h 30, without intermission
