Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s intensely Romantic, melodious quartet achieves unity through a recurrence of its initial theme. The superb lyricism and clashing atmospheres of the quartet by Danish composer Carl Nielsen deftly incorporate both learned and popular influences.
