Yannick Nézet-Séguin & Orchestre Métropolitain: Fantastic Bruckner

Cast in a somber mood that carries us deep into the composer’s disillusioned spirit, this multiply nicknamed symphony is the final recording in the OM’s Bruckner cycle. Some call it the “Tragic,” others see it as an embodiment of Christian faith. But for Bruckner himself, it was his “Fantastic” symphony, the work that finally brought Bach’s genius. This performance follows the young Richard Strauss’s Burleske, with a nod to Brahms in the piano part—verging on cheeky despite its formidable technical challenges—which takes the orchestra by the nose and leads it in a frolicsome ball.

Conductor: Yannick Nézet-Séguin
Piano: Angela Cheng
