Front: Leisa WayHeart-warming Christmas Concert for whole family at Upper Canada Playhouse The Montrealer December 1, 2015 4420 Morrisburg’s Upper Canada Playhouse has a Yuletide treat in store for all ages with their brand new holiday show, Have Yourself A Swinging Little Country Christmas, running November 26 through December 13. It stars popular singer Leisa Way with a five-piece band of accomplished musicians; all excellent singers in their own right. It’s a live holiday concert celebration that is destined to become a favourite Christmas tradition. As with all successful Christmas shows, Have Yourself A Swinging Little Country Christmas has something for everyone and entertainment for all. The show features traditional Christmas songs from legendary artists such as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Gene Autry, The Eagles, Elvis and Chuck Berry as well as the music of contemporary singers like Bruce Springsteen, Reba McIntyre, Michael Buble and more. It’s also a holiday treat for the younger crowd (and the child in all of us) with comedy, songs from Charlie Brown’s Christmas, step dancing, fiddle playing, sing-alongs, dancing reindeer, snowmen and even a special appearance by The Grinch. And rumour has it Santa himself just may appear! The concert features some of the finest musicians in the country. It’s the same company from The Playhouse’s hit show, Oh Canada, We Sing For Thee, which opened the 2015 season and brought cheers and standing ovations after every performance. Leisa Way, who has gained popular and critical celebrity for her shows Sweet Dreams, Rhinestone Cowgirl and Country Jukebox, has had a stellar career as an actress and singer. She played the lead in Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown Festival which also toured Canada, Japan and the USA. Her career has taken her to more than 50 countries and her concerts have played at over 60 theatres including The Playhouse. Leisa is joined by Nathan Smith as lead vocalist as well as on fiddle, guitar and mandolin. A skilled and versatile performer, he is an accomplished classical and bluegrass musician whose band, The Barrel Boys, toured Ontario this summer. They were recently a big hit at the Iroquois Bluegrass Festival. Bruce Ley, arranger and pianist, has had a distinguished TV career for many years, including The Tommy Hunter and Ronnie Prophet Shows. He has also worked with artists such as Don Everly, Chet Atkins and Brenda Lee. Fred Smith, playing guitar and banjo, has backed such stars as Del Shannon, Leslie Gore, Chuck Berry, The Drifters, The Supremes and The Mamas and Papas. Drummer Sam Cino has written music for CBC, CITY TV and Much Music. Bobby Prochaska, vocalist and bass, has had an acting career that has taken him from Mirvish Productions in Crazy For You and Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story to Broadway and across Canada and the USA.
