Born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazilian guitarist and singer Gilberto Passos Gil Moreira rose to prominence in the late 1960s when he spearheaded the revolutionary Tropicalia movement with Caetano Veloso. In the 1970s, Gil began recording a series of anthological records. During a career spanning four decades, the artist has redefined Brazilian popular music. Today, Gil remains a man of conviction and a gifted singer-guitarist, weaving rhythms as complex as they are deeply seductive. He served as Minister of Culture in his native country from 2003 to 2008. He will be performing at Pace-des-Arts (Theatre Maisonneuve) on November 22 at 8pm.
