MUTEK 25th Anniversary Edition – August 20-25, 2024 LiveEvents August 13, 2024 516 MUTEK 25th Anniversary Edition: 80 electrifying performances for an immersive journey through the digital arts MUTEK Festival is an international celebration of electronic music and digital creativity. From August 20 to 25, 2024, artists and music lovers from all over the world will gather in Montreal for six days of immersion in sound and visual art. The Festival will put forth almost 80 live performances in several emblematic spaces in the heart of the city, in particular Quartier des spectacles: starting with esplanade Tranquille, which annually gathers an increasing amount of Montrealers, Quebecers, and international tourists of all ages and backgrounds, to rejoice each day in the last rays of sun. In 2023, over 46,000 people enjoyed a rich and diverse selection of music, all of it free. For the indoor program, festival-goers will discover avant-garde artists and electronic music trailblazers from all over the world, with evolving visual scenographies adapted to each space: MTELUS, Théâtre Maisonneuve at the Place des Arts and the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT], which now houses MUTEK’s offices and offers a new cutting-edge sound and visual environment. Last stop on the itinerary: New City Gas, which will host a special event including the world premiere of Patrick Watson‘s new instrumental project, unleashing his modular synthesizer talent in the company of surprise guests. This 25th edition promises to be a landmark event of the summer. More than ever, audiences will be able to satisfy their desire for discovery and experience memorable emotions, indoors and out. A kaleidoscopic trip spanning from the origins to the future of electronic music Overall, nearly 120 artists from 24 countries will be sharing their savoir-faire and passion on stage. Below, a glimpse into the program series which, for a moment in time, will captivate and animate festival-goers with effervescence. Special Event August 21st, 8pm to 11pm | New City Gas | Returning to the monumental New City Gas for a second year, MUTEK presents three original performances featuring internationally renowned Canadian musicians, as virtuosic with classical instruments as they are with electronic compositions. Nocturne August 20-25, 2024 10pm to 2am (Tuesday and Wednesday) and 3am (Thursday to Sunday) | Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] The Nocturne series takes root all week at the SAT, with an amplified experience from Thursday to Sunday, as performances are presented on two floors, both in the SAT space and under the Satosphère dome. The program features innovative works that reinvent electronic music within a state-of-the-art immersive visual environment. Notably, the duo Technologies of Consciousness, made up of multidisciplinary artists Sonya Stefan and Stéphanie Castonguay, will present the world premiere of the fruit of their Avatar-MUTEK creation and dissemination residency, as well as the dome’s committed, avant-garde programming on Friday evening in collaboration with the FEMINAE NOX platform. A/Visions August 23-24, 2024, from 7pm to 10pm | Théâtre Maisonneuve at the Place des Arts Sensorial, large-scale audiovisual works that fuse image, sound and innovation are at the heart of the two A/Visions programs. Water symphony, light choreography and artificial intelligence take us from the Italian Renaissance to futuristic cinemascapes to a cosmogonic myth. Métropolis August 23-24, 2024 from 11pm to 4am (Friday) and 6am (Saturday) | MTELUS The Métropolis series is devoted to the more rhythmic, spellbinding forms of electronic music, framed in a dynamic scenography. The two evenings offer contrasting programming, best- suited for thrill-seeking audiences as well as those wishing to satiate their artistic curiosity.
