Andrew Wan and Beethoven’s Immortal Violin Concerto – October 25-26, 2023 LiveEvents October 19, 2023 601 Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) presents Andrew Wan and Beethoven’s Immortal Violin Concerto Three Viennese composers are the focus of this captivating program: Beethoven, whose highly innovative Violin Concerto will showcase the artistry of OSM Concertmaster Andrew Wan; Mozart, whose spirited “Haffner” Symphony is a thorough illustration of Viennese Classicism; and Webern, whose Passacaglia highlights the orchestra’s various timbres, and who also illuminated the contrapuntal intricacies of Bach’s six-voice Ricercar. Artists Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Rafael Payare, conductor Andrew Wan, violin Andrew Wan studied with Masao Kawasaki and Ronald Copes at the Juilliard School. As a soloist, he has performed throughout the world under conductors including Vengerov, Petrenko, Labadie, Rizzi, Oundjian, Stern and DePreist, and has performed in concert with several artists, including the Juilliard String Quartet, Repin, Hamelin, Trifonov, Pressler, Widmann, Ax, Ehnes and Shaham. A consummate and accomplished musician, Andrew Wan is active as a soloist, chamber musician and as Concertmaster of the OSM. He also teaches at McGill University. Program J. S.
