Artists
Andrew Wan, violin

Andrew Wan was named Concertmaster of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) in 2008. As a soloist, he has performed throughout the world under the direction such conductors as Vengerov, Petrenko, Labadie, Rizzi, Oundjian, Stern, and DePreist, among others, and has given concerts with many artists, including the Juilliard String Quartet, Repin, Hamelin, Trifonov, Pressler, Widmann, Ax, Ehnes, and Shaham. Mr. Wan holds three degrees from the Juilliard School and is currently Assistant Professor of Violin at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, Artistic Director of the OSM Chamber Soloists, and Artistic Partner of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Olivier Thouin, violin

Olivier Thouin dreamed of becoming a violinist for as long as he can remember. At age 8 or 9, he began practising tirelessly to fulfill his dream. He studied in Joliette with Hratchia Sevadjian from 1981 to 1987, then in Montreal with Raymond Dessaints and Sonia Jelinkova from 1987 to 1995. He pursued his training with Ivan Straus in Prague and Igor Ozim in Bern. His fondest musical memories date back to his years as a student, when he played Schumann’s Quintet with Isidore Cohen, and to his performance of Brahms’ First Symphony as Concertmaster with the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra at the Berliner Philharmonie. His first time playing with the OSM musicians was in 1997 and a few years later, in 2001 and 2004, he performed with the Orchestra as a soloist. He officially joined the Orchestra in 2008.

Victor Fournelle-Blain, viola

The versatile violinist and violist Victor Fournelle-Blain leads an active career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. Associate Principal Viola of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, he also teaches viola at McGill University and orchestral studies at Université de Montréal. After studying violin at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal under Johanne Arel, he went on to work with Ani Kavafian at the Yale School of Music, and subsequently joined the class of André Roy as a viola student at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. Winner of McGill’s 2014 Golden Violin Award, the 2012 Prix d’Europe, and Second Prize winner of the 2010 OSM Competition, Victor Fournelle-Blain has performed as a guest soloist with various orchestras including the Orchestre Métropolitain and the Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil. As violinist of the Grand-Duc Trio, he regularly collaborates with renowned musicians including Charles Richard-Hamelin, Andrew Wan and Brian Manker.

Anna Burden, cello

Anna Burden studied the cello with Hans Jørgen Jensen at Northwestern University, Joel Krosnick and Darrett Adkins at the Juilliard School and Alan Stepansky at the Manhattan School of Music. Music was omnipresent in Anna’s early years, and she began piano lessons at 6 years of age. Two years later, after hearing the sound of the cello in a summer music camp, she asked her parents to register her for courses on the instrument. At 11, during an orchestral rehearsal, Anna knew that she wanted to become a professional musician. Her favourite musical memory coincides with the inauguration of the Maison symphonique. It was Anna Burden’s first concert with the OSM in a program including Beethoven’s monumental Symphony no. 9.

Meagan Milatz, piano

Meagan Milatz has appeared as soloist with orchestras across Canada including the Regina Symphony Orchestra in May 2019, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre symphonique de Sherbrooke, and the McGill Symphony Orchestra. Meagan performs regularly as collaborative pianist for top international musicians, including Andrew Wan, concertmaster of l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal; Stefan Dohr, Principal Horn of the Berlin Philharmonic; cellist Matt Haimovitz, and violinist Jinjoo Cho, among many others. Meagan Milatz was top prize winner in the Shean Piano Competition, CFMTA National Piano Competition, McGill Classical Concerto Competition and Canadian Music Competition. Meagan Milatz holds a McGill master’s degree and is on faculty as a collaborative pianist at the Domaine Forget International Music Academy.

César Franck is the main focus of this third edition of the Palazzetto Bru Zane Festival. The vocation of the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de Musique Romantique Française is the rediscovery and international promotion of the French musical heritage of the long nineteenth century (1780-1920). Its interests range from chamber music to the orchestral, sacred and operatic repertories, not forgetting the lighter genres characteristic of the ‘esprit français’ of the nineteenth century (chanson, opéra-comique, operetta).
