Like all other organizations dedicated to live music, the LMMC was stopped in its tracks last April, and was forced to cancel the remaining three concerts in their 2019/2020 season. Club president Constance Pathy told me in a recent conversation that; “For a while, we were juggling two options. One consisted of continuing with the international and Canadian artists that we had previously booked. In the world of classical music, many performers are booked two years in advance – so we didn’t want to give up our dates unless we had to. Plan B would be to engage an all-Canadian roster of performers who did not have to contend with closed borders. We are fortunate to have many world-class musicians and vocalists in Canada. It wasn’t until August that we decide to go with Plan B. The Board and I are delighted to have so many fine musicians who have accepted our invitation to perform.”

“We have confirmation from McGill that our home base Pollack Hall will be available for our first five concerts, beginning on September 13. As has become our custom and by popular demand, all of our concerts take place at 3:30pm on Sunday afternoons. To ensure social distancing, we will only make 160 of the 600 seats available.”

The first concert on September 13 featured the Rolston String Quartet, who will be followed by cellist Matt Haimovitz on October 4. On October 25, pianist Stewart Goodyear will perform. The charismatic and talented violinist Blake Pouliot is scheduled for November 15; and the New Orford String Quartet will complete the first half of the LMMC 129th Season on December 6.

Cellist Matt Haimovitz will be accompanied by pianist Meagan Milatz on October 4. Their program: Beethoven, 12 Variations on See the conconu’ring hero come’, WoO 45’; Beethoven’s  Cello Sonata Opus 102 No. 1; Debussy, Cello Sonata, L. 135 and Poulenc Cello Sonata, FP 163.

The program of celebrated pianist Steward Good year on October 25 will include: Berg’s Sonata; Ravel’s challenging Gaspard de la nuit and Mussorsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

The world famous New Orford String Quartet will complete the fall series on December 6. The quartet includes violinists Jonathan Crow and Andrew Wan (First Violin with the OSM), Sharon Wei, viola and Brian Manker playing cello. Their program includes: Debussy, Quartet, Opus 10; Brahms, Opus 51 No. 2
