The Beatles’ Exhibition in Montréal – March 26, 2013 to March 30, 2014 The Montrealer November 27, 2012 4293 Pointe-A-Calière seeking souvenirs on loan for the exhibit Pointe-à-Callière presents a three-part exhibition on The Beatles’ appearance at the Forum in 1964: excitement, hysteria, and euphoria. Saturday, September 8, 1964. That was the day The Beatles performed two shows at the Montréal Forum on St. Catherine Street, before 21,000 audience members. The event is a memorable one that has gone down in Québec history. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this historic event, Pointe-à-Callière is preparing an exhibition on the mythical British group’s only visit to Montréal. “We are very excited to be exploring this subject matter together with local collectors. In addition to revisiting this unique event, the exhibition will take us back to the city’s effervescent music scene in the 1960s,” explains Francine Lelièvre, Executive Director of Pointe-à-Callière. In addition to revisiting this singular event, the exhibition, presented in the Mariners’ House, the new Museum pavilion, will examine the effervescent music scene in 1960s Montréal and Québec with the emergence of groups that sang Beatles’ songs in French, including Les Baronets, Les Bel Canto, Les Bel Air, César et les Romains, Les Classels, Les Hou-Lops, Les Sultans, Les Merceys, and Les Sinners – groups that are synonymous with the “yé-yé” era, which still resonates today among the young and the not-so-young. Calling all collectors In an effort to encourage the participation of the general public and to make this an interactive exhibition, Pointe-à-Callière is calling on collectors to take part. The Museum is hoping to find and borrow items that collectors have carefully preserved. In order to contribute, participating collectors must have one or more objects relating to The Beatles (with the exception of written accounts, records, or record sleeves). They must agree to have their item or items on display in the exhibition, lending them to the Museum from February 2013 to April 2014. Collectors are asked to describe their proposed object(s) in a brief message including a photograph of the object(s), sent to the Museum at the following email address: [email protected]. The message must include a photograph of the described object(s). Individuals and organizations may also contact Pointe-à-Callière’s reception desk at 514-872-9150. The call for proposals ends on Monday, December 17, 2012. Please note that Pointe-à-Callière reserves the right to refuse any offer, even if it meets the selection criteria.
