His first Trio élégiaque is a perfect illustration of his compositional mastery, while his second trio, marked by the death of Tchaikovsky, reveals the full measure of his talent. Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, one of his most memorable melodies, carries us through the exciting world of the last of the great 19th-century Russian masters.
