For their first Montreal appearance, two rising stars of the French scene, laureates of the Académie Orsay-Royaumont devoted to the art of mélodie and lied, present a poetry-filled concert.

Marie-Laure Garnier began her artistic journey at a young age in French Guiana, learning flute, piano and organ before going on to study at the Maitrîse Choir of the Regional Academy of Paris. After graduating, she studied singing in Malcolm Walker’s class at the Paris Conservatoire and had masterclasses with Stephan Genz, Anne Le Bozec, Susan Manoff and many others.

A dedicated recitalist, Marie-Laure has performed with pianist Célia Oneto Bensaid at the Paris Philharmonie, with the Republican Guard Orchestra at Théâtre des Champs Elysées, at the Bolshoi Theatre, and at the Messiaen, La Prée, and Folle journée de Nantes Festivals.

A fervent believer in equality of access to the arts, Marie-Laure regularly works with disadvantaged children and has also created a gospel choir with whom she gives charity concerts.

Célia Oneto Bensaid began her piano studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. Winner of numerous international competitions (Piano Campus, Cziffra Foundation, Nadia and Lili Boulanger competition, Bonneton competition…), she received the public prize of the Geneva Arts Society in 2017 and became the winner of the European culture program “L’Europe Du Piano”. Célia also continued her studies with Rena Shereshevskaya at the Alfred Cortot Normal School, where she graduated with the highest concert diploma. She regularly performs in concerts as soloist with orchestras, or in chamber music and is invited to festivals and venues such as the new Philharmonie of Paris, Piano aux Jacobins, the Roque d’Anthéron Festival, the Festival “La Folle Journée de Nantes”. In 2017, she became a laureate of Pro Musicis and the French Banque Populaire. She is also a laureate of the Royaumont Foundation and selected for the Lieder masterclasses of the lyric festival of Aix-en-Provence.
