DANCED RECITAL

Although they were not destined for the concert hall, and like virtually all music of the time, these pieces and dances are fundamentally gestural, referring to movements of the body.

In this “danced recital”, Alban Richard improvises on dance suites by Louis and François Couperin which have been carefully selected by Christophe Rousset.

Couperin Days: Born 350 years ago this year, François Couperin (1668–1733) is the musician of intimacy. Foregoing glory in his time, he decided instead to endow the harpsichord with a timelessly original, poetic voice. Although he never wrote for large choir or orchestra, his chamber music is substantial and champions a precise aesthetic perspective: to combine the French style and the Italian style to achieve, as he himself stated, “the perfection of music.”
