Revolutionary and Imperial Music To mark the various feast days, ceremonies, and military victories of the Revolution and the French Empire, composers Gossec, Méhul, and Le Sueur wrote patriotic music for special occasions, hymns, marches, and songs. These works were composed mainly for reed and brass instruments, which entwine perfectly with the voices, whose main objective was to broadcast political messages to the French citizens, caught up as they were in a great whirlwind of change.
