Stop Motion Montreal – September 15-17, various locations LiveEvents September 9, 2017 2737 Stop Motion Montreal Festival Stop Motion Montreal is the world’s first festival dedicated to showcasing films animated exclusively using stop motion techniques. With its use in television and feature films, stop-motion animation has experienced a resurgence over the pass few years. Despite this, getting their work screened can still be a huge struggle for many artists. Festival Stop Motion Montreal is working to change that… Created in 2009 by Érik Goulet, a stop motion animation teacher at Concordia University, the Festival is first created under the name of Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival (MSMFF). The event is since organized around the following goals: PROMOTE work by both local and international stop motion artists PRESENT a variety of Stop Motion to our audience BRING TOGETHER the stop motion community STIMULATE the Stop Motion industry in Montreal The Festival gathers professionals and independent creators alike as well as enthusiasts and fans of all ages for a truly unique cinematic experience. Discovery Program Since the very first Festival edition, a special free family program has been offered to introduce our young audience members to the exciting world of stop motion animation. In 2016, the Festival changed the name of this screening to the Discovery Program in an extended invitation to all members of the public who are curious to learn more about this unique style of animation, or to simply sit back and enjoy a carefully crafted program that is sure to please all age groups. After all, there is no age limit in discovering the wonderful world of stop motion animation! The selected films will not have any dialogue in order to accommodate all ages and languages of audience members. A diverse selection of films will be presented. Festival activities Free stop motion workshops are offered for all ages during the Festival with our hands-on animation stations. Discover the basics of frame-by-frame filmmaking under the supervision of local animators, or perfect your skills with the expertise of our on-site staff that will be happy to answer any questions and help with your creative goals. Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 12pm to 4pm in the atrium of the EV Building at Concordia University (1515 Ste-Catherine West). Our hands-on workshops are free for everyone.
