The Tashme Project – May 7-17, at the MAI LiveEvents May 3, 2015 5427 MAI (Montreal, arts interculturels) in association with Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal Presents Tashme Productions’ The Tashme Project: The Living Archives Written and performed by Julie Tamiko Manning and Matt Miwa Directed by Mieko Ouchi The Tashme Project: The Living Archives is a deeply touching work that looks at the forced internment of thousands of Japanese Canadians during World War II. Creators Julie Tamiko Manning and Matt Miwa have collected and edited together testimonies from over 20 Nisei (second-generation Japanese Canadians), now between 70 and 80 years of age. Memories of the Nisei, who were children in the camps, emerge as the childhood games they used to invent, the ordeals they went through and the postwar misery they suffered are retold. Moving from voice to voice and story to story with fluidity and constructed gracefulness, The Tashme Project: The Living Archives is an attempt to establish a deep emotional and spiritual connection with the idea of ancestry, encouraging intergenerational dialogue. “…A play that demonstrates the true beauty of storytelling and the transformative power of memory…and I didn’t want it to end.” – Robyn Lester, The Charlebois Post Wednesday-Saturday at 8pm, Sunday matinee at 3pm Post show Artist Talk on Fridays May 8 & 15 and Sunday May 16 Box Office From Tuesday through Saturday– 3 pm to 6 pm Tel: (514) 982-1812 ext. 226 or (514) 982-3386 Reservations: (514) 982-3386 Presented by The MAI (Montréal, Arts Interculturels) 3680 Jeanne-Mance Montreal (Quebec), H2X 2K5
