Musique et danse en Nouvelle-France – January 16, 2025 LiveEvents January 8, 2025 133 Les Idées heureuses presents Musique et danse en Nouvelle-France A refreshing show about musical life in 18th-century New France. Six performers – instrumentalists, singers, dancers and actors – bring to life the story of Élisabeth Bégon (1696-1755), whose correspondence is a precious historical legacy. Through her letters, she paints a portrait of the colonial elite at the end of the French Regime in New France. The musical repertoire for this show was chosen after extensive research in the archives of the libraries of the intendants of New France, notably Dupuy and Bigot. The program includes secular and sacred works by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Jean- Baptiste Lully, Louis Nicolas Clérambault, Marin Marais and Nicolas Bernier, as well as excerpts from the Livre d’Orgue de Montréal.
