Bourgie Hall presents

Tomás Alegre – Chopin and Posterity: War, Mysticism and Passion

Martha Argerich herself singled out this rising star of the international piano scene. Tomás Alegre leads us through a virtuoso program of Romantic works showcasing Chopin’s influence on the great pianist-composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Since Tomás Alegre’s public debut at the age of twelve as a soloist of Mozart’s Concerto K. 415, his performances are recognized and published by the press and the most important radio and television media of Argentina, Spain and Switzerland. In his recent reappearance at the Colón Theater with Mozart’s Concerto K. 414, the wide repercussion and the praise from the press described: “A direct expressiveness contoured with the subtlety of a goldsmith (…) Owner of an expressiveness that reveals the true essence of what he interprets”.

Tomás was born in Buenos Aires in 1992. He began his musical studies at the age of eight and during his adolescence, at the recommendation of Martha Argerich, he received a scholarship from the Banca della Svizzera Italiana to perfect himself with Nelson Goerner at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, Switzerland, earning the Diploma of Piano Improvisation with Honors. Subsequently, he entered the Chair of the legendary professor Dmitri Bashkirov (Daniel Barenboim’s father-in-law) at the Reina Sofía School of Music of Madrid, Spain, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Music Performance.

Tomás makes his North American debut in a concert tour that includes, among others, the prestigious Salle Bourgie of Montreal!
