Caity Gyorgy & Orchestre national de jazz perform Ella Fitzgerald

Immerse yourself in an unforgettable evening as the Orchestre national de jazz de Montréal (ONJ) launches its new season! Under the direction of Jean-Nicolas Trottier, the ONJ will pay a vibrant tribute to the legendary Ella Fitzgerald. Join talented Canadian singer Caity Gyorgy, two-time JUNO Award winner, to rediscover the Great American Songbook through the words and music of Irving Berlin in arrangements made especially for Ella. A unique opportunity to celebrate jazz in all its splendor!

This concert will be an unforgettable celebration of jazz and its great masters,” explains Jean-Nicolas Trottier, musical director of the ONJ.

Caity Gyorgy is renowned for her exceptional talent in bebop and swing. Her international career has taken her to jazz clubs and festivals across the country, as well as in Mexico, Japan and the USA. She has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Christine Jensen, Pat LaBarbera, Jocelyn Gould and Ira Coleman, and recorded acclaimed albums including “Now Pronouncing” and “Featuring”, as well as “You’re Alike, You Two”, a duo with pianist Mark Limacher.

“Interpreting the works of Ella Fitzgerald is a dream come true for me. Her interpretation of Irving Berlin’s repertoire marked the history of jazz and continues to inspire artists the world over. It’s a great honor to be able to share this music with Montreal audiences and pay tribute to an icon of this musical genre,” insists singer Caity Gyorgy.

In addition to her work as a performer, Caity Gyorgy is a talented composer and passionate writer. Her compositions in the style of the Great American Songbook have been performed by artists all over the world and have won prestigious awards, including the Grand Prize in the jazz category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2021.
