LA NUIT DE LA KORA

With Prince Diabaté (Guinea) and Djely Mori Tounkara (Mali – Québec)

A mainstay of Festival international Nuits d’Afrique, the Nuits de la Kora creates a space out of time in which the audience is carried away by the mesmeric musicality of the kora. With this magical 21-string harp, the age-old instrument of Mandinka griots, West Africa’s history and the stories of its people are transmitted, even without the use of words. This year’s edition of Nuits de la Kora will see a return of Prince Diabaté, the “Jimi Hendrix of the Kora,” who rejuvenates ancestral rhythms with finesse and deep respect. And this time he is teaming up with Diely Mori Tounkara, a Syli d’or de la Musique du Monde winner and a Conseil des arts de Montréal “Coup de cœur” artist, recognized for his fluidity and skill. Together, their talents are the perfect mix for creative synergy.
