Orchestre Métropolitain presents

The Leningrad Symphony

Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes a passionate and exacting dive into Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7 to make the piece shine. Written during World War II, the Leningrad symphony instantly became a symbol of hope and solidarity. Nearly a century later, it’s still disquietingly topical.

One of the world’s most renowned soloists, Maria Dueñas performs a jewel from the repertoire that was thought to be lost forever: Halvorsen’s Violin Concerto. The Norwegian composer’s piece was found a few years ago at the University of Toronto.

Spanish violinist María Dueñas beguiles audiences with the breathtaking array of colours she draws from her instrument. Her technical prowess, artistic maturity and bold interpretations have inspired rave reviews, captivated competition juries, and secured invitations to appear with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors.
