The National Bank Open – August 4-13, 2023 LiveEvents July 28, 2023 1053 The National Bank Open presented by Rogers is celebrating over 129 years of the women’s event from August 4-13 at IGA Stadium in Montreal and over 140 years of the men’s event from August 5-13 at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto. While the remainder of the first-round matches will only be revealed after the official draw ceremony, held on August 4, the tournament confirmed that Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki and Canadian Bianca Andreescu will begin their journey towards the National Bank Open title on Tuesday, August 8. • Wozniacki, who received a Top 20 wild card for the tournament, is returning to action for the first time since January 2020 and will be featured in the day session (session 5). She will be making her 12th appearance at the event, with great performances under her belt in Montreal and Toronto. In 2010, she won the prestigious title, defeating Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match, while in 2017, she finished as runner-up, falling in the finals to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-0. • As for Andreescu, she will be playing her opening-round match during the evening session (session 6). Champion in 2019 following a victory against tennis legend Serena Williams, she will be making her seventh appearance at the National Bank Open. Andreescu, who is currently No. 44 in the WTA rankings, recently had a great run at Wimbledon reaching the third round of the coveted event. One of her wins came against World No. 28 Anhelina Kalinina before losing in three sets to the eventual finalist and World No. 6, Ons Jabeur. “We are very pleased to be able to confirm the sessions that will feature two former champions, Caroline Wozniacki and Bianca Andreescu,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director of the National Bank Open in Montreal. “It’s not always easy to confirm part of the schedule this early because there are several factors that influence scheduling, including rankings, the draw, and participation in doubles. The schedule can even change at the last minute for multiple reasons, such as rain delays that disrupt the order of play. However, we know that this information is very important to our fans, and this is why we have worked hard to confirm certain matches.” Free fun during IGA Family Weekend from August 4 to 6 As is tradition, the NBO will officially launch its festivities with the IGA Family Weekend in association with Maple Leaf Foods and VIA Rail Canada. From Friday, August 4 to Sunday, August 6, the stadium opens its gates from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving fans free admission to the qualifying matches and practice courts to see the best players in the world train in preparation for their week of tennis. “We have a sensational program in store for Canadian and international tennis fans at the National Bank Open this August,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director in Montréal. “The NBO has made a name for itself as a tournament at which fans can Feel Tennis with all their senses, and that’s truer than ever this year. From Clay and Friends’ live show to Antonio Park’s culinary magic, spectacular tennis matches, fun games and emotional celebrations, there’s certainly something for everyone.” For more information and to purchase your tickets visit: www.nationalbankopen.com/montreal
