Whatever their role inside the institution may be, those who work at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts are each involved in disseminating art and ensuring that the Museum offers an enjoyable, safe and welcoming environment for dialogue and exchange. Several among them remain connected to art in their free time in the evenings, on weekends or on vacation, practising their own art, whether as amateurs or professional artists.

Outside the Frame: Works by Artists among Us celebrates the artists who work at the Museum, where their creative expressions find vibrant echoes. Featuring an installation, sculptures, paintings, drawings and photographs created by members of the Museum staff and Volunteer Guides, Outside the Frame showcases the extraordinary work of this group of artists and, by extension, the bond they share as proud contributors to the Museum’s operations.

The artist’s statement and job title appearing on the labels accompanying the artworks tell something of the character of those at the Museum who are especially driven by art, whether in their practice or field of work. Here, outside the frame of their museum duties, these artists deliver distinct messages through a variety of mediums and array of subjects, including transcendence, memory, natural processes, renewal and cosmic matter.
