Dances in Tierra del Fuego

The vibrant universe of Argentine tango!

The Cobalt String Quartet invites you on a musical voyage through the wild and breathtaking landscapes of southern Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego, or Land of Fire. December 19th at Place des arts’ Cinquième Salle, discover the vibrant universe of Argentine tango with musicalities inspired by the colors and scenery of these southern lands.

The landscapes of mountains, bluish lakes and desert plains resonate in the strings of this quartet. From the warm and ample sounds to the metallic and grating ones, from the sensitive singing of the strings to the frenzied tango rhythms, you will be enchanted by the sonic images of these rhythmic and contrasted works. Composed of cellist François Leclerc, violist Justin Almazan, violinist Diane Bayard and Guillaume Villeneuve, violinist and artistic director, the Cobalt Quartet will present a colorful repertoire, including works from Piazzolla, Stravinsky and Gardel.
As an emerging ensemble, the Cobalt String Quartet has performed with numerous festivals including The International Festival of Lanaudière, The International Festival of Domaine Forget and even Montreal’s International Jazz Festival! They have also collaborated with a number of Quebec artists including Yukari Cousineau, Vincent Lauzer, as well as Patrick Watson, revisiting his works creating new arrangements with exciting textures and improvisations.

Passion, nostalgia, and wonder will propel you on an imaginary journey of which the Cobalt String Quartet has the secret. Not to be missed!
