The Brave News Looks series returns this season with the trilingual Onishka and Imago Theatre co-production of OKINUM, playing September 2 to 11 in English, French & Anishnaabemowin.

In deciphering a recurring dream, writer, co-director and performer, Émilie Monnet, discovers how to break down interior barriers and trust in the power of dreams and intuition. In a captivating combination of  performance, live sound, and visual storytelling, OKINUM is an ode to reclaiming language and reconnecting to the spirits of one’s ancestors.

Synopsis
In Anishnaabemowin, Okinum means dam.

Emilie has a dam in her throat. In deciphering a recurring dream of a giant beaver, she discovers how to break down interior barriers and trust in the power of dreams and of intuition. Okinum is an ode to reclaiming language, and reconnecting to the spirits of ancestors.

Onikum is presented in a unique arrangement with both audience and actors on stage. A captivating combination of performance, live sound, and visual storytelling, the play is a circular and immersive experience that interweaves three languages: English, French and Anishnaabemowin.
