Live at the Comedy Nest

Ali Hassan

As seen on Just For Laughs, PBS’s Odd Squad, CBS’s Blood & Treasure and CTV’s Cardinal, not to mention in brand new seasons of CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries and Workin’ Moms, Ali Hassan isn’t afraid to show up every time you turn on the TV. He’ll talk life like you’re an old friend and it won’t be long before you’re laughing like one. Plus opening acts and MC!

Ali is a Canadian Comedy Award nominee who has also performed across Canada, in the US, the Middle East and in the UK.

Ali is the host of stand-up comedy show Laugh Out Loud on CBC Radio and SiriusXM, a frequent guest-host on q and As It Happens – which air on CBC Radio and NPR – and the host of Canada Reads – the annual book-battle celebrating the best of Canadian literature.  CBC host Tom Power has referred to him as the “Vince McMahon of books”. He’ll take it.

In his 15 year career as a stand up comedian, Ali has performed a number of times with the Just For Laughs Festival – in Montreal, Toronto and recently in Burlington, Ontario – a set that was filmed and that will air on television in the summer of 2021. Ali has also performed twice the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, including in 2020 – a set that will air on CBC Television in 2021.

In the fall of 2019, Ali was also part of the Just for Laughs Cross-Country Comedy Tour hosted by Rick Mercer, performing 23 shows across Canada over 25 days.

Ali took his solo show Muslim Interrupted to Scotland to perform at the world’s largest comedy festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  The show also ran at the Just for Laughs in Montreal and on to over 30 cities across Canada, receiving accolades and an enormous amount of press coverage along the way.

In the fall 2021, Ali will start touring his brand new one man show Does This Taste Funny?, based on his 15 years in the restaurant industry as a chef, caterer and cooking instructor.
