Les Grands Ballets premieres

ECHOES

It is with a lot of emotion that Les Grands Ballets will return to Théâtre Maisonneuve, from April 21 to 25, 2021, for the first time in over a year. The company will present ECHOES for 5 performances, a mixed programming carefully curated by Ivan Cavallari, Les Grands Ballets’ Artistic Director. A return to the stage that will be as moving for the company’s dancers and artistic team as it will be for the audience, with a poetic show that will please all.

‘We have greatly missed both our public and the stage over the past year. Since going back to our studios last summer, our dancers have been rehearsing and stayed ready for this big moment. For this return to the theatre, I have selected a variety of pieces that capture the diversity of Les Grands Ballets’ repertoire, from great ballet classics to contemporary dance.’ – Ivan Cavallari, Artistic Director

ECHOES is a reflection on passing time during a year of distancing: our dancers’ continuous work during this suspended year, their emotion to be back onstage.

The audience can discover with this mixed programming Talisman, a pas de deux of their classical ballet master Marius Petipa and an excerpt from Sleeping Beauty by the famous Marcia Haydée. Canadian choreographer Peter Quanz and Montreal-based choreographer Andrew Skeels will present two breathtaking contemporary pieces, Blushing and Requiem. Another famous  figure of Canadian dance, Hélène Blackburn will offer Fête sauvage, a new piece created for the company. Garrett Smith, whose Dancing Beethoven had charmed Les Grands Ballets’ audience in February of 2020, comes back with Solace. Finally, the company’s dancers will get to showcase their technical skills with Majissimo by Jorge Garcia and Spring Waters by the famous Bolshoi dancer turned choreographer Asaf Messerer.
