Lo Fi Dance Theory – September 11, Cinquième salle LiveEvents September 5, 2019 2828 Festival Quartiers Danses presents Lo Fi Dance Theory / Maya Orchin / Next Zone Lene Boel / Next Zone – Ritual With RITUAL FOR THE INUIT, the choreographer Lene Boel explores the influence of the nordic myths that this artist particularly likes. Created in 2010, the work is based on field research in Greenland and juxtaposes Inuit culture, its relationship to magic and animated spiritual values with the raw and urban hip hop and breakdance culture. The two dancers evolve into a circle, a territory of sharing where each is equidistant from the centre and at the heart of Inuit and hip hop culture. Traditionally, Inuit resolve their conflicts there while hip hop dancers challenge each other with explosive gestural inventions. Choreographer Lene Boel has created a unique performance about the basic forces of humanity, a a hybrid between dance, a music inspired by sampled drum-song and hip hop, the light and the minimalistic striking scenography. Maya Orchin – In the Wake In the wake is an exploration into the depths of fear, how it manipulates our perceptions and twists the fabric of our consciousness. This piece beckons the viewer into a dissected existence, torn between the physicality of real-life traumas and the existential unfolding that follows. How can the fears morph once embodied? The dancers navigate in a hyper vibrational space creating a new landscape that’s filled with a vigorous and electric scene. They put their own experiences on stage together with a futuristic dimension, giving birth to something unexpected. Their own stories become entangled with the others culminating with what was once initially a solo expedition it transforms into a chaotic and exciting adventure. Wynn Holmes, Lo Fi Dance Theory – Porcelain Any child of a beloved icon is guaranteed a tough time escaping their shadow, but Porcelain has had it tougher than most, a state of affairs not much helped by the fact that his career has thus far evinced something of the leisurely hobbyist. Porcelain explores ancestry, masculinity, physical endurance and ability. For information and tickets: www.placedesarts.com 514-842-2112 or 1-866-842-2112
