Festival Quartiers Danses presents

Janelle Hacault / Jane Mappin

Shapeshifters – Janelle Hacault, Montreal, World premiere
For her first participation in the FQD, Janelle Hacault proposes a piece full of simplicity and irony, integrating theatre and contemporary dance. The quartet Shapeshifters uses movements from everyday life. Questioning our doubts and revealing the monster within each of us, this piece brings to light truths of our human relationships. Exploring through movement the internal functioning of our thoughts and emotions, this creation presents a world at once dreamlike and nightmarish.

SILK – Jane Mappin, Montreal, World premiere
Choreographer, teacher, and performer working at the height of her art, Jane Mappin creates abstract pieces with pure lines contrasting lively emotions. In 2018, Jane presents the quartet SILK which questions us on the impact of time on our lives. How can humans create alongside change? Transitions occur softly, naturally, and slowly, or brutally and drastically. When the foundations of our lives crumble, how can we keep trying new experiences?

Quartiers Danses FestivalIAmWeAreOne (2) – Jane Mappin, Montreal, World premiere
Jane Mappin has previously touched on the subject of mental health in her work. This year, she presents IAmWeAreOne (2), a new creation bringing together professional and atypical dancers (specifically those suffering from aphasia, schizophrenia, bipolar, or chronic pain). This piece celebrates the resilience and joy of living that endures despite life challenges. Their burning desire to dance and share unites them, even for just a moment.
