Festival de Lanaudière presents

Gospel Mood

Gospel is a colourful, spiritual music that originated in North America. While its roots go back to the Baptist and Methodist churches, where black American slaves found hope and comfort, today Gospel transcends all nation and outlooks.

Festival International de Lanaudière (FIL)

The Festival International de Lanaudière is the biggest classical music festival in Canada. Every summer, it presents nationally and internationally renowned soloists and orchestras. Many concerts, shows and recitals are given outdoors at the Fernand Lindsay Amphitheatre, in Joliette, and in churches throughout the Lanaudière region.

Since it was founded in 1978 by Father Fernand Lindsay, the Festival de Lanaudière has been a key summer rendez-vous for great musicians, artists, orchestras and ensembles from near and far. The Société de la Place des Arts has managed the Amphithéâtre Fernand-Lindsay since 1995 and acts as the Festival’s official box office.

An international-calibre classical festival
A can’t-miss destination for classical music lovers, the Festival has become a necessary step for many artists, including Cecilia Bartoli, Ben Heppner, Karina Gauvin, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Maxim Vengerov, Angèle Dubeau, Alain Lefèvre, Charles Richard-Hamelin, and the Zemlinsky Quartet; conductors Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Kent Nagano, Charles Dutoit, Bernard Labadie, and Jean-Marie Zeitouni; and major orchestras such as the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Philadelphia Orchestra and many others.

Fernand Lindsay Amphitheatre: the core festival venue
Inaugurated in 1989, the outdoor Fernand Lindsay Amphitheatre can hold nearly 2,000 people under its roof and 4,000 on its lawns. The venue is well-known for its exceptionally good acoustics, greatly appreciated by both artists and classical music lovers.

A number of services are also provided on site, including parking for 1,600, restaurant service and a caterer.
