Salute To Vienna

Many Montrealers enjoy the annual Salute To Vienna concert at the elegant Salle Wilfrid Pelletier, and once again Attila Glatz Productions will present this popular concert featuring Strauss waltzes; celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year. Its fine way to ring in the New Year with a convenient start time of 2:30pm.

Since its Montreal debut, concert-goers continue to enjoy the magic the Viennese New Year. This year, the concert will feature a brilliant cast – an orchestra of 65 musicians under the direction of Alexandre Steinitz, plus outstanding vocalists; soprano Lara Ciekiewicz and tenor Brian Cheney. The immensely popular Quebec soprano Lyne Fortin will also be joining the celebrations.

Global champions of social dance and the dancers of the National Ballet of Hungary will add charm and elegance to the festive New Year’s Day presentation.

The producers keep the Salute to Vienna program fresh by constantly renewing the musical selections of the famous Strauss waltzes, the polkas of the golden age of Vienna and excerpts from The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus and other timeless favourites  are always a source of delight for the audience. It’s an afternoon of good cheer and romantic music.

The music of Johann Strauss, Franz Lehar and Emmerich Kalman wrote the waltzes, operettas, and polkas that are all part of the New Year’s program that the show producers describe as “…a celebration expressing the beauty of love, passion and romance.”

It often happens that during the opening notes of the famous Blue Danube Waltz, the audiences clap so enthusiastically that the conductor will ask the orchestra to re-start one of the world’s most recognized tunes. The legend is that the Danube River appears to be blue only to lovers…

The concert concludes with the energetic Radetzky March – everyone stands and claps along with the music, often reprising with increasing speed. Simply stated, it’s a wonderful end to the concert. Smiles all around!

The tribute to Vienna 2018 edition will be presented in 21 cities in North America and more than 50,000 spectators will share the pleasure of Viennese elegance.
