Tinariwen – April 13, Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier LiveEvents April 5, 2017 4039 Tinariwen For Saharan blues band Tinariwen, the desert is their home, and their hypnotic and electrifying guitar rock reflects complex realities of their homebase in North West Africa. They are Tuareg, descended from nomadic people who have wandered the dunes for millennia, but the music of Tinariwen travels too, reverberating far from dusty plains of Mali. Winner of a Grammy Award in the category Best World Music for their 2011 album Tassili, they will be back in Montreal to present their newest album, Elwan recorded in Joshua Tree, California, due to political instability in their country. In Elwan (meaning “the elephants”), every song evokes a land that can no longer be found, with all that this implies in terms of emotional range, from nostalgia for a joyous past to the tragic recent loss of a territory, and of the dream that it nourished. Opening act: Dengue Fever, a musical hybrid of Cambodian rock, Afro grooves, surf & garage psychedelia! For more information and tickets: www.placedesarts.com 514-842-2112 or 1-866-842-2112
