Montreal Ice Canoe Challenge

Enjoy a ringside seat of extreme sport action at the Ice Canoe Challenge

The icy waters of the river host this rousing round of the Circuit québécois de canot à glace (Québec Ice Canoe Circuit): an extreme sport, practiced by brave athletes, both male and female, who come to challenge winter. Cheer them on while enjoying the many family activities available onsite.

It’s two exhilarating days of heart-pumping competition as top-level athletes race their canoes across more than 10 metres of the glacial St. Lawrence River. Come out and cheer on Captain Mylène Paquette and her VIVE MONTRÉAL 375 crew, or one of the dozens of other teams, for a fun-filled skill testing day on Saturday or the spectacular race on Sunday. Don’t miss this unique winter experience!

From the starting line at the Bassin de l’Horloge around the Tour de l’Horloge, to the western tip of the Bassin Alexandra, passing by the Parc de la Cité-du-Havre and Parc Jean-Drapeau (Île Sainte-Hélène), the route hugs the river banks so spectators don’t miss a breathtaking minute of the race. Teams will complete three (13 km) or four (17 km) circuits, according to their category. The Élite Men (4 loops), Élite Women (3 loops), and Sport (3 loops) will leave the starting gate at 15-minute intervals to heighten to the excitement.

This year marks the 15th edition of the Montreal Ice Canoe Challenge, and the fourth of seven canoe ice races in the 2017 Circuit québécois de canot à glace schedule.
