Ibrahim Maalouf

Kalthoum

A child prodigy born in Beirut during the Lebanese Civil War, Maalouf has built a major reputation with the unique quarter-tone sound of his four-valve trumpet, plunging the listener into the profundity of the Arabic musical tradition. Maalouf is omnipresent European radio and onstage, with a sound bridging improvisation, Middle Eastern jazz, hip-hop opera, film music… After winning a 2014 Victoire de la Musique award (French Grammys) for his album Illusions, he brings us Kalthoum, a gorgeous tribute to Egyptian singer Oum Kalthoum, the “Star of the East” who passed away 40 years ago.
