Soprano Lydia Teuscher In early December, Labadie will conduct Handel’s Messiah December 3 to 6 with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, then five more times with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from December 10 to 20. The New Year finds him conducting Mozart with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra; the “Jupiter” Symphony on January 16 and 17 and the Requiem January 21, 22, and 23. Labadie returns to lead the two ensembles he founded in Mozart’s two unfinished sacred masterpieces; The Grand Mass and The Requiem, with soloists Lydia Teuscher, soprano; Allyson McHardy, mezzo-soprano; Thomas Cooley, tenor; and Benjamin Appl, baritone. There is speculation that Mozart had patched together parts of his other compositions in order to present the premiere performance in Salzburg in 1783 at St. Peter’s Abbey. The performance will be on Friday, February 12 at Place des Arts Maison Symphonique. Two weeks later, Maestro Labadie and Les Violons du Roy returns to Montreal on February 26, to the more intimate Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Bourgie Hall. Labadie will shares his love of Bach through his own transcriptions of major works by the master composer.
