Open Air Theater, Art and History abound in the Mount Royal Cemetery The Montrealer July 7, 2015 6318 For a seventh year in a row, Repercussion Theatre’s much loved Shakespeare-in-the-Park tour will make a stop at the Mount Royal Cemetery. Join us on July 15th at 7:00 pm on the great lawn at the main entrance of Mount Royal Cemetery. Enjoy the show in the quiet, serene setting in a perfect backdrop that allows for the Open Air Theatre of Shakespeare-in-the-Park to unfold with minimal distractions. The ten-member Shakespeare-in-the-Park cast is a balanced blend of emerging and experienced Shakespearean actors who will perform the beloved classic, “Twelfth Night (or What You Will) under the new artistic directorship of Amanda Kellock. “As soon as I got the news that I was going to be the next Artistic Director of Repercussion Theatre, I knew exactly what play I wanted to do,” said Ms. Kellock, who saw Twelfth Night, her first Shakespeare-in-the-Park experience, as a teen in 1994. Known as one of Shakespeare’s most perfect comedies, Twelfth Night is the raucous yet touching story of a set of separated twins desperate to find their missing half. Shakespeare’s inimitable wit and masterful language is paired with hilarious physical and visual comedy, inciting tears and laughter in equal measure and sometimes simultaneously. The play explores the nature of love, loss, and longing, broaching such provocative issues as sexual identity and the nature of attraction against a lively tableau of role reversal and disguise. In Shakespeare’s play, Twelfth Night (or What You Will), a sense of delightful disorder is certainly at work. Women disguise themselves as men. Music, drink and sword fights abound, and servants push the boundaries of “place”– allowing characters to experiment with what is possible, and encouraging us to do the same. Mount Royal Cemetery will provide a shuttle service from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. to pick people up every 15 minutes at #80 Vincent d’Indy in front of the Edouard Montpetit Metro and at the cemetery’s South Gate from Bus # 11. Look for the black Caravans with gold lettering.
