Gilberto Gil, Gilbertos Samba – April 8, Theatre Maisonneuve

A national hero in Brazil, guitarist and singer Gilberto Passos Gil Moreira has enjoyed a brilliant four-decade career. Having redefined Brazilian popular music (and served as its global ambassador), Gil has released over 30 albums that have sold 5 million copies. Winner of the Festival’s 2008 Antonio Carlos-Jobim Award, he returns after a stellar performance in PdA in autumn 2012 to present a new album, Gilbertos Samba, revisiting the repertoire of the immortal João Gilberto (released in November 2014). Today, Gil remains a man of conviction and a gifted singer-guitarist, weaving rhythms as complex as they are deeply seductive. He served as Minister of Culture in his native country from 2003 to 2008.
